What is PMP®?

Project Management Professional (PMP®) is an internationally recognised certification in project management. The certification is administered by the Project Management Institute (PMI)®, an American organisation, which is dedicated to project management. PMI® is the largest American standard for project management, and therefore, is a highly valued certification among global companies.

The topics in PMP® are created with a focus on validating and recognising the skills and competencies of the project manager. The PMP® material covers a wide range of topics within project management, such as: project initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and control, and completion. In addition, there is also a large focus on agile processes and the leadership skills of a great project manager.

Frequently asked questions

Below you can find answers to some of the frequently asked questions regarding our PMI® courses.

What is the focus of the PMI® method?

PMP® focuses on recognising project management as a professional discipline with standards, processes, and best practices. It emphasises the importance of using documented methods and tools to effectively manage projects.

The PMBOK® Guide is a comprehensive guide published by PMI® that describes best practices, processes, and terminology in project management. PMP® is based on the PMBOK® Guide, and the “Agile Practice Guide” is also an integral part of the methodology behind PMP®.

PMP® is structured around five main areas of project management known as Domains. These domains are Initiating, Planning, Executing, Monitoring and Controlling, and Closing. Each domain covers specific aspects of project management and provides a framework for understanding and applying best practices.

Who is a PMP® certification for?

PMP® project management is aimed at experienced project managers who want to expand their knowledge and further enhance their skills, as well as new project managers seeking a solid methodological foundation.

PMI®’s methodology covers the entire project management journey from initiation to completion, with in-depth focus on value creation, team leadership, the financial aspects of project management, and, importantly, stakeholder management, addressing the many challenges that project managers continually face in their projects.

Mannaz’ project management survey from 2023 indicates a growing professionalisation within project management. This is evident as project models from international project management institutions (IPMA®, AXELOS (PRINCE2®), and PMI®) are increasingly used in Danish companies. Particularly in companies working internationally and those in the pharmaceutical and engineering industries, PMI®’s project model is utilised. However, it is also applied across industries, including the IT and consulting sectors.

More and more organizations specifically seek certified project managers for the management of complex projects. Both CAPM® and PMP® certifications are respected and internationally recognized, demonstrating that you have acquired comprehensive knowledge and skills within PMI®’s standards. They provide increased credibility and competitive advantages in the field of project management.

Is a PMP® course relevant for me?

A PMP® course is relevant for project managers who want a comprehensive approach to projects and wish to expand their knowledge of project management.

Additionally, the course is particularly relevant for project managers, steering committee members, or project participants who want solid knowledge of waterfall, hybrid, and agile project management. PMP® covers various definitions and emphasises the adaptation of project theory to the organisation’s reality.

At Mannaz, you can combine the course with our exam preparation course, which best equips you to pass the otherwise demanding exam at PMI®. For project managers early in their careers, both courses are relevant for taking a CAPM® exam.

What does a PMP® certification (Project Management Professional) require?

PMP® Project Management and PMP® Exam Preparation at Mannaz are courses that professionally equip you to take a CAPM® or PMP® certification with the Project Management Institute (PMI®).

The certification itself can be obtained through PMI®, where you need to apply and pay independently.
