Sustainability at the office in Mannaz House
With many more square metres for both courses and office work, we saw an opportunity to design and fit our new space in the most sustainable way possible.
Interior designer, Christina Steen, from Indretteriet, helped us fulfil this potential. With her guidance, we upcycled furniture from our previous location, purchased second-hand furniture that was new to us and selected sustainable suppliers for our new furniture.
Sustainable interior design
Behaving sustainably can quickly become a complex task, so it’s a good strategy to establish a structured process that suits your business.
Therefore, our decoration process in Mannaz was structured as follows:
1. Upcycling old furniture
2. Recycling furniture
3. Purchasing new and sustainable furniture
This process allows a systematic approach to sustainable interior design, with the most sustainable options reviewed first.
Upcycling furniture
At Mannaz House, we’ve done our best to upcycle furniture from our previous office locations and venues. Rather than unnecessarily buying new furniture, we realised we could refresh and modernise ‘old’ furniture by repainting; a far more sustainable way to get a modern aesthetic.
So, we had our old shelves, tables, coat stands, and bar stools repainted by LUX LAK, thereby extending the lifespan of most of our furniture. We’ve also added boards of natural oak from Across Copenhagen to several items of furniture, which also contributes to a more modern look.

Recycled furniture
After upcycling as much as possible, we’ve discovered several items of recycled furniture in different second-hand stores and on the Danish online platform Den Blå Avis.
We’ve also found lamps, woven tables, woven chairs, coffee tables, and various decorative items in Copenhagen’s second-hand furniture shops, such as Dora on Værnedamsvej, Frelsens Hær Genbrug, Røde Kors, and Folkekirkens Nødhjælp on Gammel Kongevej.

Sustainable furniture at Mannaz House
Where we’ve had to buy new furniture for our Farvergade office, we’ve aimed to purchase furniture from responsible corporations. We select suppliers who take a stand and implement specific actions in terms of sustainability.
For instance, we have furnished Mannaz House with couches and armchairs from SOFACOMPANY.
