Presentation and Argumentation
Establish a Dialogue with Your Audience
| Presentation and Argumentation is about you as a communicator and about only having yourself, your body and your contact with the audience to work with. You will get a number of very concrete tools that will help take you safely from start to finish when you need to communicate your messages verbally. |
Do you know the myth of the perfect speaker who was born with a special talent, who doesn’t need to prepare and is never nervous? We would like to help strip away this myth, as it’s not true. On this course, we replace the myth with concrete tools that will take you safely from start to finish.

Course content
Preparing your speech – interplay
It’s impossible to be creative and logical at the same time. By using interplay, you will get more ideas and thus greater material to work with when structuring your speech.
The speaker’s toolbox
The effective introduction, a clear message, effective highlights and a powerful ending help retain the attention of your audience.
The script
Pros and cons of various forms of script. Learn how to make your script “speaker friendly” and flexible to avoid giving the impression that you depend on your script.
Manage your stress
Make stage fright and anxiety your allies.
Body language
What body language means for your impact.
Argumentation
Various forms of argumentation: logos, pathos and ethos. These three professional expressions describe how you can appeal to your audience. Learn to tell the difference between strictly professional argumentation (logos) and emotional argumentation (pathos) and the opportunities and pitfalls of both forms. How does your credibility (ethos) affect your argumentation?
Learn to build credibility and learn how, for example, humour comes into play.
Debate – strategic considerations:
- Which arguments support the case?
- How should you build your argumentation?
- Which arguments will the other party use?
- How do you tackle counter-arguments?
- We will conduct a “group debate competition”, which will offer an opportunity to train your argumentation in a pressurised situation

Facilitation method
The facilitation on the Presentation and Argumentation programme is characterised by a great deal of participant activity.
You will have several opportunities to test what you have learned in practice.
Your various presentations will be recorded and you will take home a DVD to allow you to see yourself at your leisure. You will receive feedback after each presentation – from the facilitator and the other participants.
The course results in a debating competition where the group is split into groups. The groups will prepare the evening before. This competition gives you plenty of opportunity to make use of what you have learned and recapitulates the entire course and ties up loose ends – and at the same time it’s a fun part of the programme.
